New Book Announcement🚨HOLY SH!T, IT'S ONLY...
... Tuesday?—a story about work, culture, and pushing sh!t uphill.
Hi! Remember me?
If you don’t, I’m Joe Wehbe, a well-meaning young people-watcher from Sydney with a background in real estate. For a brief time I thought I was going to change the education system, but realising I was just suffering from a huge Saviour Complex, I shelved those plans and threw myself into a book project with this whacky guy I met, Paul. This is us in 2023:
In the coming weeks I’ll fill you in on our peculiar little story, how a late twenties-entrepreneurial-wanna-be met a very unusual sixty-something businessman from South Australia, and why they started writing a book together.
We can also unpack why this book, which was meant to be a serious and enlightening guide on finding happiness at work and joy in life, turned into a comedy instead: a fictional satire roasting the corporate business world.
Instead of wise insights and philosophical lessons, Paul and I introduce reprehensible characters with a painful lack of self-awareness. Readers cringe and shake their heads page after page as these characters attempt to navigate various workplace dramas.
PLEASE BE WARNED: if you read this book hoping for a silver lining, you may end up disappointed. That being said, it is an exceptional guide on what not to do—at work and in life.
Some of you have known or followed me along long enough to remember my ‘preaching’ days, back when I made hundreds of posts and podcast episodes carrying on with all sorts of pseudo-philosophical dribble, claiming to know what people should and shouldn’t do. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, PLEASE do not go back looking!)
Well, I just spent the morning cleaning up and deleting a lot of this dribble—pining through old posts, cringing, feeling sorry for all the sympathy likes and people who put up with my years of social media bombardment (Sample below… what the hell was I smoking?)
Somewhere along the way, I think I realised something: People aren’t too receptive to being told what to do, or what the right thing to do is. They are however very motivated to avoid looking like idiots.
Instead of telling people how to improve their workplace or build culture, Paul and I took a different approach: explore total idiots and show how they would go about these things… the thinking was, readers would want to avoid these behaviours.
I know. Genius.
I don’t need to say much more for now—the title says it all:
